Richard Terry, DO, MBA

Our residency program launched in Summer 2012 with 3 residencies in our core service areas: internal medicine, family medicine, and surgery, and a rotating internship. AOMC now offers 6 residency programs and 3 fellowship programs. We are an ACGME accredited institution and all of our programs have received ACGME accreditation or are pre accredited.

Richard Terry, DO, MBA
Dr. Richard Terry is a graduate from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1988. He completed his residency at the University of Rochester in Family Medicine in 1991, the first osteopathic physician ever admitted to the program. Dr. Terry has Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Dr. Terry currently serves as the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM at Elmira) and Chief Academic Officer at Lake Erie Consortium for Osteopathic Medicine Training (LECOMT). Dr. Terry previously served as the Designated Institutional Official at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY which hosts nine ACGME accredited programs and supports 126 residents and fellows. Previously he served as the Assistant Dean of Regional Clinical Education at LECOM where he built numerous rural clinical rotation sites as well as graduate medical opportunities in primary care.
Dr. Terry has over two decades of experience in both graduate and undergraduate medical education. He has been instrumental in developing a regional campus model for Lake Erie College Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) as well as developing numerous graduate medical education programs in multiple specialties and undergraduate opportunities for osteopathic students. Dr. Terry has expertise in the ACGME accreditation process and over the past five years has built a robust clinical network of hospitals offering undergraduate medical education and graduate medical education opportunities for LECOM students. He was a driving force to achieve accreditation for the new additional location for LECOM in Elmira, New York. This is the first medical school in the Southern Tier of New York State and received a three million dollar economic development state grant.
Dr. Terry has published on various educational topics and has given numerous national lectures on a variety of medical education topics. Dr. Terry was recognized in 2012 as the Osteopathic Family Physician Educator of Year by the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. In 2016, Dr. Terry presented at the prestigious Josiah Macy Foundation Northeast Regional Conference on Innovations in GME and in 2017 was recognized by the American Osteopathic Foundation Committee as the 2017 W. Douglas Ward, PhD Educator of the year. This past year Dr. Terry was an invited speaker on the development of Community-Based Graduate Medical Education programs at the annual ACGME conference in Orlando, Florida and in July 2019 he received New York State Association for Rural Health’s Senator McGee Award, for his outstanding contribution to improving the health of rural populations.
Dr. Terry is married and has five children ranging from the ages of 8 years to 28 years old. He is an avid runner and an ever aspiring golfer.
Frank Edwards, MD

It has been a huge pleasure to watch our GME program grow from nothing less than a decade ago to nine programs (six residencies and three fellowships), all ACGME accredited, all flourishing, and all led by dedicated program directors, excellent faculty and—perhaps most importantly—graced with enthusiastic residents and fellows. Though we’re a young GME system, our programs have already made a great positive impact on the health care of this region and will continue to do so as we retain graduates and produce a growing body of research and quality improvement projects.
Along with providing excellent training, we place a very high priority on the overall wellbeing of our residents, fellows and faculty. Beginning in 2019 we have initiated a comprehensive wellness program that includes free access to the fully equipped Elmira College gymnasium facilities, healthy food when on overnight call, training in the nature of resiliency and burnout, immediate access to counseling services if needed, social and recreational opportunities, and other activities during an annual resident appreciation week.
We also view our residents and fellows as partners in a continuing effort to mold the best programs possible. Between Residents’ Council, regular Resident Town Hall meetings, and opportunities to join the Graduate Medical Education Committee, residents have ample opportunity to share their ideas and to appreciate that their feedback is valued. We also strive to create a general atmosphere of scholarly inquiry. All residents become involved in research and quality improvement projects, facilitated by faculty mentors, our GME research fellows, and the Arnot Health Research Committee. If these words reflect a sense of pride on my behalf, it’s genuine. Come see what we are building, and I think you’ll agree.
Frank Edwards, MD, FACEP
After a stint in the U.S Army as a helicopter pilot in Southeast Asia, Frank Edwards graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with an A.B. in English and Chemistry and received his M.D. from the University of Rochester. A.B.E.M. certified in emergency medicine since 1988, he served on the EM faculty of the University of Rochester in the 1990’s. Edwards started an emergency medicine residency at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in 2014, serving as EM program director until becoming the D.I.O. at Arnot Ogden in June of 2019. He is the author of an emergency medicine textbook and a number of articles.
Roger Schenone, DO, FACOI

I have had the honor of providing healthcare to the Elmira community for over thirty years. For the past seven years I have had the pleasure of being involved in developing and continuing GME, initially as Internal Medicine Program Director and currently as Associate DIO, at Arnot Health.
As a practicing physician I have seen first hand the benefit that GME is providing. This has recently become especially apparent as our graduating residents and fellows have begun practicing in our community.
In just seven years the Arnot Health System has gone from a non academic institution to one with multiple ACGME accredited residencies and fellowships. This attests to the dedication and goal directed leadership of both AHS and GME administration. We are totally committed to constantly improving our programs.
I strongly encourage you to come and train at one of the most progressive programs in the country and also to consider the beautiful Finger Lakes region in your future practice plans.

Our Graduate Medical Education Program offers educational programs in many disciplines. The GME Committee coordinates our overall residency education effort and works closely with department chairs and program directors to make sure that our educational program are conducted in full compliance with the guidelines of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the highest academic standards of excellence of Arnot Ogden Medical Center. From your first day of arrival you become part of our educational community.
