Dear Prospective Endocrinology Fellow:
On behalf of our distinguished Faculty, I welcome you to Arnot-Ogden Medical Center Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolic Diseases Fellowship Program. Our mission is to provide broad and comprehensive clinical training while you spend your valuable two years in fellowship. Arnot Health is formed by Arnot Medical Services, the outpatient organization and three hospitals, which Arnot-Ogden Medical Center is the flagship. We are excited that you have chosen to enter the puzzling and intriguing field of Endocrinology. We believe you will be fascinated with Endocrinology as we are. Over the course of your 24-month training, you will have the opportunity to participate in multifaceted care of many patients with various endocrine problems. Clinical supervision is continuous for the entire length of training. Clinical activities are supplemented with a standard curriculum, clinical teaching sessions on case-by-case basis, literature review, patient education and quality improvement. Trainees are provided opportunities to teach to internal medicine residents. In the future the fellow may assume a role in training of medical students. There have been no rotating medical students in endocrinology up to now. In addition to patient care, you are required to participate in a research project and deliver an oral or poster presentation at a national conference, either the Endocrine Society Meeting or the Annual Meeting of AACE. Your involvement will be of sufficient intensity to lead to one or more abstract presentations and/or authorship of a manuscript. For scholarly activity your options are 1) presentation at a national conference 2) author an article in a PubMed indexed Journal 3) author or coauthor a book chapter. If you are motivated, you are welcome to do more. As we instill in you the importance of lifelong education and learning, it is our hope that this fellowship training will enable you to provide effective, quality, up-to-date care to each patient you encounter along your future career.

Curriculum
Our training program's goal is to provide future Endocrinologists with a foundation to become competent clinicians, researchers, and teachers. Our program has three faculty members at Arnot-Ogden Medical Center, Elmira, NY and one faculty member at Metabolic Diseases Associates in Erie, PA. Teaching occurs in both places and we plan to schedule a rotation in Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center in Pennsylvania.
The goals of the endocrinology subspecialty-training program are:
1. To provide comprehensive instruction and experience in clinical endocrinology sufficient for the fellow to acquire the competency of a specialist in the field by building up a solid foundation of medical knowledge, critical thinking abilities, literature review, diagnostic acumen and technical skills
2. To provide an introduction to the principles of clinical research.
3. To provide the experience and opportunity to enable the fellow to act as an educator, especially in the field of diabetes education targeting public and patients with diabetes.
4. Encourage fellows to become active members of the profession’s national societies.
5. To teach professionalism by mentorship within the scope of ethics, responsibility, respect, compassion and self-well being.
